World Record of the Day: The Guinness World Records’ hotly contested title for tightest parallel parking has changed hands for the fifth time in two years, with Chinese driver Han Yue sneaking his new Mini into a space just 5.91 inches longer than his car. Book #7: Calico Joe by John Grisham
First off, this book is very short, about 140 pages. But this makes it a great read for the summer. This book deals with baseball, transgressions, and the power of forgiveness in one’s dying days. I won’t go into plot because this book is so plot driven, but Grisham’s use of transporting the reader between past and present is amazing, implying what is going to happen without telling the reader until near the end.
So far, my two favorite books from this year deal with baseball (this and The Art of Fielding), but both do a great job of putting baseball on the back burner for some pretty deep issues in the human psyche. I’d suggest this book to everyone, especially baseball fans.

West Virginia preacher Mark Randall “Mack” Wolford, who believed Christians should handle snakes to test their faith, died after a rattlesnake bit him over the weekend.
Wolford had turned 44 on Saturday. He had seen his father die of a snakebite when he was teenager.
