It's not going in our yard Russ.: Democrats who should consider running for Governor of North Carolina

c-newt:

  • Roy Cooper- He’s Attorney General. He’s well liked, and fairly well known.
  • Brad Miller- The Congressman from District 13. Republicans in the General Assembly redrew district maps to put his home 50 yards in another district represented by the wildly popular (in his district) David Price. This would be a giant Fuck You to the General Assembly if he won.
  • Elaine Marshall- She just ran for US Senate in 2010, so he has name recognition.  But she lots by a lot, so she’s not exactly someone voters flock to.
  • Jim Hunt- I’m not even joking.  Bring him back for a 5th term.
  • Dean Smith

Don’t forget Richard Moore. Finished 2nd in the 2008 primary and was a very promising candidate. As a former state treasurer, could ride this “fiscal responsibility” train pretty well.

Out of your options, I really like Brad Miller. It would be hilarious if he were forced out of Congress only to become governor. Either way, we have to keep the Governor’s Mansion blue.

EDIT: Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton just announced his intention to run. I’m indifferent.
